April 27, 2020
Dear Exhibitors and Industry Stakeholders,
It was just a few short weeks ago that we were scheduled to meet at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for CMPX 2020. By the time of the scheduled show opening, the Convention Centre was closed, and any mass gatherings were considered illegal in Ontario. How quickly things have evolved.
These past few weeks have been interesting as we unwind everything that had been done to ensure a successful CMPX event. A number of contracts needed to be reviewed, cost impacts mitigated, options for the future of the event needed consideration, and of course, communications to exhibitors and industry stakeholders was a constant.
Over this past month, we have regularly reached out to many industry stakeholders to determine the best possible timing for the next CMPX event. Due to the severe and fluid impacts of COVID-19 on the industry and the trade show business, we have determined that the best option is to hold the next event in 2022. We believe this will ensure that we meet the needs of both exhibitors and visitors. We have been successful in securing dates at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for 2022.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
CMPX 2022 will be held the week of March 20th, 2022,
with the show opening for three days on March 23rd, 2022.
We will be communicating directly with exhibitors in the coming weeks regarding the options available to them for the 2022 event. In the meantime, if any exhibitor requires an immediate refund, they can email the request to email@example.com and a refund will be processed immediately.
We thank the exhibitors, show partners, the trade press, and all other industry stakeholders for their patience and support over these past few weeks. It’s a difficult time for everyone, let’s hope that days of normalcy come sooner than later!
On March 13, 2020, we announced the postponement of CMPX 2020. When this decision was made, the seriousness of the COVID-19 Virus was just beginning to resonate with the general population and government at all levels. Within hours of our announcement, the Provincial Government began limiting public gathering, first to a few hundred, then down to 50 people and now only groups of 5 or less can congregate. It’s amazing how things changed so dramatically in such a short window of time.
Since we announced the postponement of CMPX 2020, we have been able to secure potential new dates in 2021 with the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) for the spring of 2021. The challenge with these dates is that it conflicts with other industry events, specifically the MCEE event scheduled for less than 10 days after the CMPX 2021 event. Cancelling the 2020 event, and moving back to the regular schedule in 2022, is also an option.
With the COVID-19 Virus still causing disruptions, it’s difficult to determine the best course of action. A task force of senior industry leaders from HRAI and CIPH are meeting to evaluate the multiplicity of options for consideration.
We have heard from many of you over the past two weeks. We encourage others to come forward to provide their feedback about the possible options available for CMPX and how it would fit your future business plans. We have created a landing page where you can provide your feedback. We value your input and kindly ask you to share your comment through this link.
For the time being, we are holding all fees paid by exhibitors. If we move forward with a 2021 event, all fees will be applied to the 2021 event with no increases passed along. In addition, your current space on the show floor will be held. If you require a refund, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and a refund will be processed.
These are difficult times, and we appreciate your patience. We wish you, your families and your fellow employees’ good health and stay safe. Again, we value your input and encourage you to share your feedback through this link.
It’s amazing how fast the world moves; just 10 days ago we were confident that the 2020 CMPX Show would run as expected. Even earlier this week we were re-assured when the Ontario Government made a public announcement (March 10th) that events should continue as planned in the Province. Roll the clock ahead 48 hours and it’s a different world.
Sports events have been cancelled, flights have been disrupted, schools closed, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, and the Canadian Government announced a comprehensive response package to combat and mitigate the impacts of the outbreak in Canada. All that in 24 hours.
The boards of directors and senior business leaders of both CIPH and HRAI have been monitoring the events surrounding this global crisis and communicating regularly with members, conference attendees and exhibitors. Discussions about the correct course of action have evolved on a daily and hourly basis. These leaders have been mindful of how decisions will impact all stakeholders.
Even if the risks are low, the safety of all involved is paramount and, with that in mind, we are announcing the postponement of the 2020 CMPX event.
There are many details that remain to work out, so further announcements will be made in due course. For now, we wanted to get this message out to ensure all exhibitors are able to make appropriate plans, since the planned start of the event is only twelve days away. We will communicate pertinent details as they become available. We request your patience and support as we work through these issues.
If you, have any immediate inquiries, feel free to contact either of us or CMPX Show Manager Patrick Shield at email@example.com or 416-444-5225.
